Coverage crosses two things at once — water colour against presentation, temperature against presentation — and shows you the squares you have never fished. On one or two records every square is empty, which is true and useless. Come back after a few debriefs.

The water column is broadly uniform again. Metabolism, daylight and access often constrain the day more strongly than vertical temperature separation.

Depth question: Is there any observed reason to leave the depth fish or forage are already using?

Caution: Cold water changes pace; it does not make every fish a bottom fish.

Inspect · First break

Look for a hard-bottom transition, scattered cover, bait concentration and fish that move between shallow and deep water.

A presentation that crosses the contour tells you more than one held entirely above or below it.

Inspect · Basin

Look for suspended forage, oxygen limitation, winter concentration and summer depth layers rather than shoreline clues.

Horizontal position matters less than depth until a concentration is actually observed.

Inspect · Inlet

Look for plume boundaries, colder or warmer water, turbidity, oxygen and concentrated drifting food.

Read it as moving water nested inside stillwater; current angle matters again.

Inspect · Littoral shelf

Look for warming water, insects, visible forage, spawning activity, cover and abrupt shade boundaries.

Depth is limited; stealth and angle usually matter more than added weight.
